Delores E. BlockhusUrbandaleDelores E. Blockhus, 98, of Urbandale, died Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Silvercrest at The Woodlands. Friends may visit with the family after 10 a.m., on Wednesday at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, with a funeral service at 11 a.m.Delores is survived by her two children Sonja (Larry) Hunt of Urbandale and Eric (Ellen) Blockhus of Boulder, CO and four grandchildren Kristin (Dave) Mottier of Geneva, Switzerland, Kathy (Pete) Johannsen of St. Paul, MN, Jenna Blockhus of Boulder, CO, and Lindsay (Fab) Wilfong of San Diego, CA.She was preceded in death by her husband Martin, brother Willard Moe, and sister Lavina Lutz.Delores was born on April 25, 1918, in Ridgeway, IA, the daughter of Oscar and Edna Kratz Moe. As the youngest of three, she was nicknamed "Babe." In the early 40s, before dial telephones, she worked as a telephone operator in West Union. A job she always enjoyed. On August 1, 1943, she was married to Martin J. Blockhus at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in West Union. In 1946, she and Martin moved to Des Moines where Martin attended the American Institute of Business. As her family was growing up, she began working at Sears girls' department in Merle Hay mall - a position she held for over 20 years.Delores loved reading, gardening, doing crossword puzzles in ink, and was an amazing cook.
