Jacksonville, NC -- Dennis Christopher Crist died peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 6 2016, following a brief illness. His loving family was by his side.A life-long resident of Jacksonville, Dennis was born on November, 28, 1954 to Guss and Martha Crist of Jacksonville.He was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister, Andrea Crist and brother, Dino Crist. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie S. Crist of Jacksonville; former wife, Betsy S. Baker of Jacksonville; daughter, Caroline Elaine Crist of Santa Monica, CA; sisters, Christina Crist Blake of Jacksonville, Mary Grace Crist White of Raleigh, NC and Elizabeth Crist Johns of Jacksonville; brother, Guss Crist, Jr. of Burgaw, NC; and many nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly.Dennis graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1973 and attended Chowan College. Returning to Jacksonville, Dennis had ink in his veins, first working at, and then owning, Cosco Printing Company. He was in his office the week prior to his death.Dennis was handy, always willing to help a friend or stranger fix what was broken. He had a way with animals, who seemed to instinctively know Dennis was their friend. He loved life, loved the beach and loved playing pool. But most of all, he loved family. His most cherished memories always were about times the family had gathered as one. Weekly Sunday afternoon dinners with siblings, nieces, nephews, in-laws won't be the same without Dennis.And while his family and friends will miss him, we have the same confidence he had, knowing of the eternal life he has through Jesus Christ.A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, 6:00pm at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Shepard officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 5:00pm until 6:00pm. The family wishes to thank the staff of Community Hospice for their care of Dennis in his final days.
