Dennis George Lowes Dennis George Lowes, 89, of Hilton Head, SC passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Known with much affection to his family as "Huggy", Dennis was born on June 27, 1927 in Detroit, MI to George and Bridgett Marie Lowes. He enlisted in the
U.S. Navy and served for two years at the end of
World War II. He worked in and owned several home improvement businesses before embarking on a career in real estate sales and development. As a Regional Director for American Central Corporation, a division of International Paper, Dennis was responsible for developments in Michigan, North Carolina and Maryland. Always a visionary, he saw a promising future in a new resort concept and in 1976 formed Vacation Time of Hilton Head Island, Inc. and purchased the Adventure Inn on Hilton Head for one of the pioneer resorts in the then fledgling timeshare industry. He subsequently opened the iconic Fitzgerald's Restaurant at the Adventure Inn, developed two condominium projects adjacent to the Adventure Inn. The rental, real estate and property management business that he founded, now in its fortieth year, is still operated by his family. Dennis loved golf and played frequently until a hip injury sidelined him a few years ago. In his last year of play he carded two holes in one in a single month. He owned the Shipyard Golf Club for several years in the late 1970's and always enjoyed playing with the Men's Golf Association there. More than anything, Dennis enjoyed spending time with the love of his life and his wife of thirty-five years, Jean Clark Lowes. They enjoyed golf, travel, time with family, playing cards, discussing world events, laughing and simply being together. He is survived by Jean and her children; Tim (Lois) Clark, Linda (Lloyd) Roberts, Terry (Michael) Notartomaso and Laurie (Gary) Fons, his children; Susan (Jerry) Peterson, Kelly (Keith) Hopkins and Paul (Marla) Lowes, his brother Jack (Peggy) Lowes, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Perry. Dennis was successful but humble, always willing to help anyone in need, a mentor and father figure to many, generous to a fault, an optimist and encourager, loved to laugh and lived life to the fullest. The family would like to express their gratitude to the resident angel and chief caregiver for Dennis and Jean for the last several years, Elaine Mankin. A celebration of life will be held at the Christian Renewal Church, 95 Gardner Drive, Hilton Head Island, on Saturday August 20, 2016 at 4:00pm. A reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Lambs for Life
