WEST JEFFERSON — The Rev. Denton Hart of West Jefferson died on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was 63.
The Rev. Hart was born on Jan. 29, 1951 in Ashe County to Edward and Esta Carpenter Hart.
The Rev. Hart was the pastor of Mountain View Baptist Church for 22 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a kind and caring spirit and loved the church and people.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dean Hart; and a sister, Shirley Jones.
The Rev. Hart is survived by his wife, Phyllis Greer Hart; daughter, Kristy Hart of Mooresville; brothers Bill (Faye) Hart of West Jefferson, Don Hart of Millers Creek, Johnny (Lilly) Hart of Shady Springs, W. Va., Sammy Hart of Wilkesboro, Terry Hart of Wilkesboro; a sister, Sue (Charles) Barr of Lansing; a half brother, Beecher Hart of Roan Mountain, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014 at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Brian Weaver, the Rev. Eddie Lewis and the Rev. Danny Farmer. Entombment followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum of Prayer with the Rev. Sonny Thomas and the Rev. Russell Sheets officiating.
