Mr. Derrick Robert Wood was born on October 18, 1956 in Queens, New York to the late Clarence Robert Wood and to the late Mae Gwendolyn Wood. He departed his early life at the age of 66 on Wednesday August 16, 2023 at Tri Star Summit Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Derrick was affectionately known to many as "Daddy-D" and "The Ambassador". Derrick was a graduate of Martin Van Buren Highschool in Queens Village, NY. He was attending services of New Life Community Church of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania under the pastorial of Bishop Dr. J.LaVon Kincaid, Sr Pastor. Derrick was united in Holy Matrimony to Gwenoy B.(Darrow) Wood on March 7, 1992. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter, Derrese Arnete Wood and his in-laws, Rev. Dr. Edward E. and Joycelyn Bufford. Those left to cherish his loving memories include: daughter, Marla (Parris) Frasier, son, Derrick Wood II, step-son, Jamal L. Darrow; 5 grandchildren: Mycaiah R. Wood, My'Yana R. Frasier, Mysaunn R. Frasier, Jazelle Richards, and Carmelo Darrow. His little pal Prince Wood and a lifetime friend of 63 years and mother of his 3 kids, Arneatha Dixon Harrell; Godson, Troy L. Crossen, and Godchild Andrea Crossen; and a host of other relatives and friends.
