NICHOLS, Despina Despina (Dee) Paulson Nichols 84, of Marietta/Kennesaw passed away on November 10, 2016, at NorthStar Place Assisted Living. Dee was born on September 7, 1932 in Ypsalanti, Michigan to Alec and Mary (Christopher) Paulson. She was the youngest of three children (Irene, Charles (Tikie), Dee). She grew up in Savannah, Georgia. She attended Savannah High School where she met her husband, Evans (Evie) John Nichols. The high school sweethearts were married June 10, 1956 at St Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, Savannah, GA. Dee worked as a women's accessory buyer for Levy's department store in Savannah and also at White's department store in Augusta where Evans did his residency in OB-GYN. Evans and Dee moved their family to Marietta in 1963 where he joined a private OB-GYN practice. She became active in the Women's Medical Auxiliary Society where she served as a past President. She served as a Girl Scout leader for her daughters, and also as a basketball coach for all of her kids. She loved competition! Dee loved playing tennis. She began ALTA at C6 and moved all the way up to A1 where her team won city finals. She played almost everyday for 30 years. Dee loved to dance, both American dancing and Greek dances. She was always dressed to the nines with great earrings, the perfect belt and accessories and loved a good fun party! Dee was a member and past President of the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Greek Orthodox Church for over 50 years serving those in need. She sang in the Church choir for many years and even when her memory began failing, she always remembered the words to many of her favorite hymns that were sung only during Holy Week. When she could no longer speak the words, she hummed the hymns in the alto part. She was a member of the Mountain Laurel Garden Club where she served as a past President and began their Auction Fundraiser. She was the auctioneer for many years dressed in a tuxedo, of course with the perfect accessories! Dee loved the Atlanta Falcons, the beach, shooting marbles and drinking coffee all day long. A loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her daughter Mary (Alex) Miltiades, sons Chris (Anthea Tissura) Nichols and Marc (Lee Evans) Nichols and son-in-law Pete Moraitakis.
