Dexter "Bud" O. AndrewsDexter "Bud" O. Andrews, age 81, passed away on December 11, 2013 at his home in Two Rivers.He was born on February 4, 1932 to Mary Benedict and Earl Dexter Andrews in Two Rivers, WI. He was raised in the poorest conditions imaginable during the Great Depression on a wooded, untamed 40-acre farm. With his three siblings, Ruth (Braun), and twins Albert Andrews and Alice (Richard) they lived 64 miles northwest of Green Bay in Mountain, WI. They had no running water, no electricity, and no mother. The one thing he did have was his beloved father, Earl, who filled his life with love, hope, and inspiration. Bud joined the U.S. Navy in 1951, serving on a destroyer during the Korean War. While in the Navy, Bud met an angel, the love of his life, Shirley Richard, in Two Rivers on July 4th, 1952. They married on July 10, 1954 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Two Rivers. In 1955, he was honorably discharged and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, eventually earning a Development Technician degree in 1957. Bud moved his growing family to South Milwaukee, WI in 1958 where he spent many years raising his six boys. He became very active in St. John's Catholic Church and School, where Bud volunteered on the church council. He held leadership positions involving activities with his children, including Cub Scouts, Little League, and the Youth Center. His love of music expanded beyond country & western music as he relished watching his sons perform in various musical theater productions.The family moved to Kokomo, IN in 1973. While in Kokomo Bud received special recognition for helping save a colleague's life through applying CPR. Bud also single-handily sponsored a nine-member Vietnamese family profoundly changing their lives forever. He worked in the migrant ministry. His love of carpentry enabled him to make extra money renovating recreational rooms, adding screened-in porches, and re-roofing houses throughout Kokomo. A man of many talents, he learned how to square dance, garden, golf, play bridge, and began to traveling abroad.Bud held a variety of leadership positions at AC Spark Plug/Delco Electronics (a subsidiary of GM) in Oak Creek, WI and Kokomo, IN for 34 years, retiring as a senior cost analyst. In 1992, Bud and Shirley began spending winters in Winter Haven, FL which they continued to do for 19 years. They moved from Kokomo to Grand Junction, CO in 1997 and spent 10 years there. Bud put his handyman gifts to work by volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, RSVP, the local soup kitchen, and helping his children remodel their homes.Life came full circle when Bud moved back to his birth town of Two Rivers in 2007. Despite health challenges, he volunteered at Aurora Hospital and St. Peter the Fisherman Church. He also assisted in the care of some of his family and friends.He was a loving Father who cared greatly about his country, community, and family. He was a faithful and caring husband who adored his wife. He was an incredible role model who inspired his sons to be terrific fathers, caring citizens, and honorable men. He enjoyed life, family, music, travel, golf, cards, and, as a shareholder, the Green Bay Packers. Despite his recent struggles with Parkinson's disease later in life, his faith in the Lord was strong and steadfast. He was always quick with a smile, loved to hug, and offered words of wisdom and gentle guidance to many throughout his lifetime. He had a sharp wit and an arsenal of funny sayings. He was a warm, kindhearted, generous man who exemplified integrity.Despite his humble and challenging beginnings, he made a wonderful life for himself, his wife, and his children.He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Shirley (Richard) Andrews. He is also survived by his 5 children; Curt Andrews (Jean), Keith Andrews (Xian), Glenn Andrews (Sara), Craig Andrews (Sue), and Brian Andrews (Laura). He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren: Stephanie Fogarty (Wade), Barbra Stricker (Michael), Ryan Andrews (Katie), Jennifer Buccione (David), Chad Andrews (Andrea), Katie Malott (Kelly), Chelsea Andrews, Sara Badgett (Kyle), Spencer Andrews, Mackenzie Andrews, Natalie Andrews, Nicole Andrews, Dexter (DJ) Andrews, Ben Andrews, and John Andrews. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; Taylor Andrews, Hunter Stricker, Leo Stricker, Peyton Andrews, Caryn Fogarty, Brody Malott, Lily Gonzalez, and Stella Buccione. Dexter is also survived by his brother Albert Andrews, and sisters-in-law, Marie Klein, Lou Skarban, and Chris (Marc) Johnson.He was preceded in death by his son Chad Andrews, his sisters Ruth (Braun) and Alice (Richard) and sisters-in-law Frances McFall and Gina Andrews, and brothers-in-law Ivan Klein, Larry Richard, Harry McFall, and Ed Skarban.A celebration of Bud Andrews' life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2013 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 3201 Mishicot Rd. in Two Rivers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Tom Reynebeau. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded by members of the VFW Post #1248 and American Legion Post #165 of Two Rivers.Visitation will be held at the church Monday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass at 11 a.m. There will be no Sunday evening visitation.
