Diana Jill (Ulmer) Bruns
KINGWOOD, Texas — Jill (Ulmer) Bruns, 66, peacefully passed away at home in Kingwood, TX, on November 26, 2016, after a two year battle against cancer.
Jill was born on November 5, 1950, and raised in Sedalia, MO, daughter of the late Geneva (Farley) Ulmer and Russell Ulmer. She lived in Sedalia until her marriage to Mike Bruns in 1971, but remained a proud Sedalia girl thereafter.
Jill graduated from Smith-Cotton High School, attended Missouri State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia, graduated from the University of Central Missouri and obtained a Master's in Education from the University of Saint Mary. She taught middle and alternative high school English and Literature for many years in the Center School District (Kansas City, MO) and in the Humble School District (Humble, TX).
Jill was deeply devoted to her family, friends and former students across the country. She beamed love and smiles for everyone in her path. Jill's credo was to "kill them with kindness" as she put love, kindness and warmth into everything she did whether it was a delicious meal, crafts or taking care of others. She never met a stranger. She loved turtles, baking, reading, crafts and the color green.
Jill is survived by her husband, Mike, and their children Ryan Bruns of Chico, CA, Amanda (Bruns) Kim and her husband, Greg, of Houston, TX and Megan Bruns of Camden, ME. She was the grandmother of Meredith and Maeleigh Kim. She is also survived by her brother, Dale Ulmer and his wife, Kathy of Mobile, AL.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church, Sedalia on Saturday, December 17 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy (http://barbarabush.org/), the Wesley United Methodist Church, Attn: FOCUS, 1322 W Broadway Blvd., Sedalia, MO 65301 to assist at risk students in life skills or a .
