Dinorah MendozaBeacon - Dinorah Mendoza, a local area resident since 2015, formerly of Kissimmee, FL and Manhattan, died at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie on Friday, March 24, 2017. She was 85.She was born on November 9, 1931 in Havana, Cuba, where she was raised by her aunt, Dolores Perez, and her father, Alberto Perez. At age 19, she emigrated alone to the United States to immerse herself in the English language and settled in Manhattan. In 1954, she met Dagoberto Mendoza, also from Cuba, and on December 17, 1955, they were married in New York City. She was predeceased by her husband in 2002. She worked for New York Telephone Co. for nearly 30 years until her retirement in 1997. After moving to Dutchess County, Dinorah became a member of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. She enjoyed many hobbies such as travel, movies, shopping, music, dancing, and attending Broadway shows. Dinorah's vibrant personality will be remembered by all those who knew and loved her. She was an incredible woman, wife, mother, and grandmother who will never be forgotten. She is survived by two daughters: Rosemary Santiago & her husband Reinaldo of Wappingers Falls and Clare Wegescheide & her husband Richard of Wappingers Falls; her grandson, Paul Richard Wegescheide of New York City; and her granddaughter, Blair Marie Wegescheide of Pittsburgh, PA.In addition to her husband, Dinorah was also preceded in death by her father, Alberto Perez, as well as her infant son, Jose Mendoza.Calling hours will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 27 at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill.
