Hallelujah! Our precious Maria Dolores Gallegos Martinez, 80, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas was welcomed home by our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Dolores was born on Dec. 3 to her beloved mother, Placida Gallegos who precedes her in death. Dolores married the love of her life, Henry A. Martinez on Jan. 10, 1959. They had one daughter, Henrietta Griego.Dolores is preceded in death by her mother, Placida Gallegos; and father, Nieves Gallegos; her husband, Henry A. Martinez; brothers, Rudy, Pete, Alfredo "Chemo" and Eddie Gallegos. She is survived by her loving daughter, Henrietta and husband, Leo Griego Jr., of Las Vegas; her sister, Jorgina "Gia" and husband, Frank Berged, of Las Vegas; sister, Isabel Lopez and Beatrice Richards; sisters-in-law, Rose Gallegos, Mary Ellen Gallegos, and Evelyn Juarros; and brother-in-law, Carlos Martinez (Lorraine). She is survived by nephews and nieces, Alan, Aaron and Alicia Gallegos, Tony (Geri), Andy (Lorraine), Paul Adam (Sylvia), and Patricia Gallegos, Kerri Lynn Gilley (Gary), Eduardo (Deb), Tara Gallegos, Aaron (Beth) Juarros, Brandon Gallegos, Frank III, Roland, Franchesca (Kenneth), and Brianna Berged. Many great nephews and nieces, ones she spent much time with and was very close, Dante, Jazmyne, Jayden, and Devynne Jenkins, Emiliano Berged, Kayla Berged and many others. Many children were blessed to have been baptized and confirmed by Dolores who was affectionately known to many as "Auntie Dolly." She is also survived by several cousins and close friends.Dolores was born in 1935 in Wagon Mound­­­­­­­­­­­­­­, where she lived until she was a little girl, upon which time they moved to Las Vegas where she resided for life. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School. She married Henry A. Martinez 1959 who owned and operated Henry's Shoe Service in Las Vegas. Upon graduation she began work with the Fourth Judicial District Courts, where she rose to the position of District Court Clerk where she retired in 1980s. She was admired and respected by jurists and peers for her dedication and hard work. Being so young at the time of her retirement, Dolores sought out other employment and began working with New Mexico Legal Aid. She again dedicated her time and energy to her job, where she also loved helping her clients and worked until she retired from there. Together with her mother and sister, she sang in a choir at Immaculate Conception Parish for many years. Dolores made many friends and enjoyed spending time with them, going to lunches, dinners and even to the gym. Dolores was always active and on the move. She was one of the most generous, caring and kind person you would ever meet. Dolores would support Henrietta in all of her endeavors. She was proud of the woman she has become, following and supporting her through high school and college. She enjoyed watching NFL football cheering on her Dallas Cowboys. Together with her daughter, they would spend time enjoying coffee together and drives around town as they were best friends. Dolores was always willing to lend a hand; she had a huge heart of gold. She would attend and support all of her nieces and nephews at sporting events attending football, basketball and volleyball games or concert events. Services have been entrusted to Rogers Mortuary in Las Vegas. A celebration of life will be held at Immaculate Conception Church. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 8 a.m. on Tuesday by sister-in-law Rose Gallegos. The Catholic Mass will be held immediately following with Father George Salazar presiding. Burial will follow services immediately at Mt. Calvary Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Roland Berged, Alan Gallegos, Paul Adam Gallegos, Dante Jenkins, Emiliano Berged, Kenneth Jenkins, Aaron Gallegos and Frank Berged III. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are: Leo Griego, Jr., Frank A. Berged Jr., Timo Valerio, Leonard Marquez, Carlos Martinez and all her nephews and nieces in her life. The eulogy will be delivered by nephew/godson Frank Berged III. The family has asked that attendees dress in colorful attire. Dolores has gone to meet her God and to be reunited with her mother, brothers and husband and wants this to be a joyous event. Please attend in bright colorful clothing.
