HAMPTON - Dominic James Carsia passed away peacefully in Hampton, VA on November 19, 2016 at the age of 93. A mass and memorial service followed by a reception will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Ave, Hampton, VA at 10:00 am, Monday, November 28. Dominic was born on March 27, 1923 in Hazelton, PA, the second child of Dominic and Jenny Carsia. He left home in 1942 and joined the
Army Air Corp and, in his words, "served faithfully 30 years, 2 months and 19 days" before retiring at Langley Air Force Base as a Chief Master Sergeant. His military career spanned three wars during which Dominic received numerous military decorations including the
Bronze Star. An avid bowler, Dominic won many tournament competitions during his military service which of course delighted his unit commanders. A big-hearted man who knew no strangers his family members enjoy telling stories of his ability to quickly engage and connect with strangers in even the most unlikely of places. A devoted father and grandfather and a friend to many, his greatest love for 67 years was his wife Marie who continues to reside in Hampton. Dominic met Marie at a YWCA dance in Trenton, NJ in 1948. They were engaged and married 3 months later. In addition to his wife, Dominic is survived by his daughter, Dona Carsia Eley of Buffalo, NY, son-in-law David Eley, granddaughters Maria Eley McClain and husband Josh McClain, Elizabeth Eley Nason and husband Rob Nason, and two great grandsons, Marlon and Desmond McClain of Buffalo. Long a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus donations can be made to St. Joseph's Church in Hampton, VA in lieu of flowers.
