DON KRUG January 23, 1957 - April 1, 2017 Professor Don H. Krug passed away on April 1, 2017 at Vancouver General Hospital. He was sixty years old. Don is survived by his wife, Mary Underwood, and beloved dog, Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Herbert Krug, and his brother, Robert Krug. He is survived by his sisters Mary RIngquist and Kathleen Krug. Don was born on January 23, 1957 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. While in high school, he enjoyed playing football as well as acting in school plays. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1976. After teaching Art at Lake Mills Elementary School, he returned to university and earned a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction. Don then moved to Columbus, Ohio, and taught at The University of Ohio State until 2002. Don was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, and spent a year writing and lecturing in Vancouver is 2001. He was thrilled by the mountains, forests, and ocean of the Pacific Coast. Mary and Don moved to Vancouver where Don taught at the University of British Columbia until 2015, in the Department of Curriculum and Pedagogy. His scholarly interests were varied, and included the use of technology in the classroom, digital literacies, on-line learning, the connections between art and ecology, and sustainability. Don had a passion for golf and played at many of the local golf courses. The highlight of his life was when he traveled to Scotland on 2015 and golfed at the St. Andrews Golf Course.There will be a memorial for Don at the UBC Golf Club on June 3rd, 2017.
