Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at Village Chapel Funeral Home for Don Lee Mathis, 75, Reece City, who passed away Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016. Pastor Daryle Nichols will officiate. Burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Village Chapel Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.Don was born on July 3, 1941, in Gadsden. He was a wonderful husband, father, Paw-Paw and friend. Don was always willing to help anyone who would help themselves. He was the shining patriarch of the Mathis family, and he will be missed, but the lessons of life that this great man learned will be passed on for generations yet to come.Don was a longtime member of Dwight Baptist Church.Mr. Mathis is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Ellen Jean Mathis; his mother and father, Irene and William Mathis; brother, Ted Mathis; and brothers-in-law, Ray Hunter and Barry FrenchHe is survived by his 5 children, Clint, Djuana, Bart (Marika Benggio), Kelly (Kenneth LaCount), and Don (Stephanie); his eight grandchildren, West (Amanda Adcock), Amber, Morgan (Brooke), Maddison (Logan Harrelson), Cameron (Britney), Clint (Danielle Smith), Kenton, and William; his eight great-grandchildren, Grace, Erik, Brayden, Jaxson, Cade, Londyn, Ryker, and Hollynd; and his brothers and sisters, Patsy Hunter, Jimmy (Janice), Belinda (Jim) Brown, and Janice French.Pallbearers will be his grandsons.Jeff Morgan will serve as honorary pallbearer.The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Village Chapel.
