He was born on May 14, 1930 in Belleville, Ontario, Canada He was the beloved husband of the late Joyce (Norton) Yateman; beloved son of the late Harold Yateman and Earl and Irene Wight. He was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Yateman of Belleville. Don passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at home with his first granddaughter, Brandy Lopez, and her husband, Larry Lopez in Mesa. He will be missed by all of his eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild! He also had many nieces and nephews around the U.S. and Canada who he loved to visit whenever possible! Donald served in the U.S. Army and attended the University of Syracuse. His interest in forestry conservation and pulp and paper lead him to PH Glatfelter, in Spring Grove, where he worked as a laboratory chemist for many years and retired in the early '90s. He and Joy were long time members or St. Peter's (Lischey's) United Church of Christ in Spring Grove. Don was also active in the Spring Grove Lion's Club and the North Codorus Planning Commission. He was also a member of the Spring Grove School Board. Don loved skiing in the winter, as a senior member of the National Ski Patrol at Ski Roundtop and he loved sail boating in the summer on Lake Marburg. Don and Joy also loved camping and traveling with their children and grandchildren and supported them in all their activities. Following their retirement, Don and Joy moved to their home in Payson, Ariz. They frequently spent time with children and grandchildren in the Phoenix area. They enjoyed traveling and hiking the western U.S. and Mexico. Don adopted a volunteer position at the Tonto Natural Bridge State Park, in Ariz., where he was able to share the history and geology of the area with numerous visitors! He was able to spend many of his retirement years doing the things he loved and sharing his love of the natural world with others. He will be dearly missed by family and friends but he has gone on to join Joy and those others he loved and cared about who have gone on before!
