MECOMBER Sr., Donald Claude 76, of Kenneth City, passed away peacefully November 30, 2016, following a brief illness. Donald was born on a cold and snowy day in Port Byron, NY to Claude and Alice Mecomber, March 29, 1940. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran who served at Patrick Air Force Base from 1961-1965. After his honorable discharge, Donald married Barbara Ann Freeborn, February 10, 1966, and they were married for 42 years until her passing in 2008. He served as a member of the Kenneth City Volunteer Fire Department and was the Fire Chief for 16 years until the day he told Mayor William B. Bartholomew off. He also worked for the Pinellas County Government and retired after 31 years of service as the Airport Fire Chief/EMT at St. Petersburg/Clearwater International Airport Fire Department. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann Freeborn. He is survived by a son, Donald Mecomber Jr. and daughter-in-law, Amy; sister, Patricia Wakefield; brother, William Mecomber; sister-in-law, Linda Mecomber; and granddaughter, Elise Marsh-Mecomber. A private celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at his home in Kenneth City. His ashes will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to charity. The family of Donald wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Nancy Tourigny, and Mike Kocher.
