Donald M. Cossel passed away December 4, 2016 at TRU Hospice Care Center in Boulder. He was 67 years old. Don was born on May 10th 1949 in Fort Madison, IA to Glen Harrison and Veva Ione (Stookesberry) Cossel. He graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1967. Don served as a Sergeant in the US Army, Echo Recon 1st of the 5th Air Cav Infantry from August of 1969 to August of 1970 in Vietnam. He was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/V Device, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge,
Bronze Star Medal and Expert Badge (Rifle). On September 20th 1980 he married Shirley Waffensmith. Don was a mechanic working at the Valmont Plant for Public Service Xcel Energy before retiring in 2003. He was an antiques collector, gardener and enjoyed playing pool in his basement while drinking Keystone Light with friends and family. He loved all his animals, birds and squirrels in the garden. His family and friends will always remember him for his wit and great sense of humor. Don was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Shirley; his children Mike (Tanya) Davis and Kristi (David) Grimes; his grandchildren Nickolette Grimes and Ezekiel "Ez" Ho'omau Davis; his brother Jack (Gan) Cossel and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of services, Don's request was to have a party in celebration of his life. His family will be hosting an open house on Saturday, December 10th from 3pm-5pm at the Cossel residence for memories, laughter stories and to finish off his Keystone Light.
