WAWAKA — Donald Gene "Red" Hawn Sr., age 84, of Wawaka, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at 12:10 p.m. He was born on November 10, 1930, the son of George and Ethel (Smith) Hawn in Columbia City, Indiana. On March 14, 1952, he married Margaret "Peggy" Hawn. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2014. Donald served his country honorably in the United States Army and later retired from Curto Foundry after 42 years of service. He loved to hunt, fish and watch IU basketball. He was a member of the Rome City American Legion Post 381 Survivors include four children, Don (Barb) Hawn of Ligonier, Alice (Carl) Fike of Avilla, Suzanne Hursey of Cromwell, and Nancy (Bob) Musser of Wawaka; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Carl (Nancy) Hawn of Constantine, Michigan; three sisters, Lavonne (Delbert) Linn of Cromwell, Donna (Roger) Ott of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Lydia Martin of White Pigeon, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Arthur "Bud" Hawn, Katherine Emmons, Mary Kline, and Freda Ware. A Celebration of Life service will be held in Mr. Hawn's honor on Sunday, November 16, 2014, at 4 p.m. at Yeager Funeral Home in Ligonier with Celebrant Larry Baker officiating. Family and friends will be received from 1-4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Rome City American Legion Post 381.
