DONALD GREENFIELD, 88 FREEPORT - Donald Greenfield, 88 of Freeport (formerly of Forreston), died February 12, 2015. Don was born on March 2, 1926 in rural Forreston, IL. He was the son of Irvin and Linnie (Duitsman) Greenfield. On March 21, 1953 he married Norene Branche in Forreston, IL. They were married for 60 years. Don and Norene spent their married life farming together on the Sesquicentennial Greenfield farm just 2 miles southwest of Forreston. He was an active, lifetime member of Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church. He served several terms as a trustee. Don was involved in several community organizations. He was a member of the 50+ Ogle County Farm Bureau and served as the Director of the board for several terms. He also served as trustee for Lincoln Township. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, writing on his calendar every day and going to cattle sales in Missouri and Nebraska. He only had red tractors and his favorite was his 1944 H. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting/musical events, watching the Chicago Bulls and was a die-hard Cubs fan. He is survived by his three daughters, Sandy (Bill) Williams of Freeport, Cathy (the late Steven) Schmidt of Kandern, Germany and Lauri (Bill) Plambeck of Forreston; grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) and Lindsay Williams, Joseph (Jessie Shippert), Stephen and Mitchell Plambeck and Jonathan Schmidt; and three great-grandchildren, Dean, Korah and Isaac. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norene (4/12/13); his parents; his sisters, Irma (Alfred) Ludewig and Florence (Leo) DeVries; and son-in-lawk, Steven Schmidt. The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb.21, at Forreston Grove Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Jeremy Cheezum officiating. Burial will follow at Forreston Grove Cemetery. Visitations will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb.20, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Forreston and Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
