Rev. Donald J. Haycock, C.S.C., 86, died on Friday, December 9, 2016, at Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, Indiana. He was born on Feb. 19, 1930, in Hazelton, Pa., to Ross and Marie (Helferty) Haycock. He was received into the Congregation on Aug. 15, 1952; made his First Profession on Aug. 16, 1953; graduated from Stonehill College, Easton, Mass., in 1955; professed his Final Vows on Aug. 16, 1956; and was ordained a priest on Nov. 30, 1958. He then earned his bachelor's degree and Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 1959 and later obtained a master's degree in Education from the University of Rochester, New York, in 1967. He served as a teacher at Holy Cross Fathers Faculty Residence, Bridgeport, Conn., from 1959 to 1960. He taught at Notre Dame High School, Bridgeport, Conn., from 1960 to 1961. He was then assigned to the Holy Cross Fathers Mission Band in North Dartmouth, Mass., from 1961 to 1962. From 1962 to 1971, Fr. Haycock served as chaplain and teacher at Cardinal Mooney High School, Rochester, New York. He was then assigned as principal of Notre Dame High School, Niles, Illinois, in 1971, and served there for two years, before returning to Cardinal Mooney High School as chaplain in 1973. Four years later, in 1977, Fr. Haycock was assigned Personnel Director at the Provincial House in Bridgeport, Conn. In 1978, he returned again to Cardinal Mooney High School as chaplain and counselor. When Cardinal Mooney High School closed its doors in 1989, Fr. Haycock was given permission to accept full time parochial ministry at St. Lawrence Parish, Rochester, New York, where he served over 20 years as parochial vicar. Fr. Haycock moved to Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, Ind., in 2011. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ross and Marie Haycock. He is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Mason (Richard); and four nieces and nephew, Richard Jr. (Maureen), Mariann Osorio (Neylon), Robert (Ami); and seven great-nieces and nephews, Jonathan and Luke Mason; Mark and Amanda Mason; Donte, Sierra, and Deja Osorio. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m., Sunday, December 18, 2016, in the Chapel of Mary at Stonehill College, North Easton, Mass., where a wake service will take place at 4 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2016, at the Chapel of Mary at Stonehill. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery on the college campus. Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend and Kane Funeral Home, Easton, are in charge of the arrangements.
