Donald James DunnROSEVILLE: Donald James Dunn, 84, of Roseville, OH passed away on Tues . January 20, 2015 at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on November 11, 1930 in Roseville, OH to the late Walter and Carrie (Carroll) Dunn. He was a graduate of Roseville High School in 1948, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball. He was a truck driver and dispatcher for the Hennis Trucking Company for 28 years and later worked for Dunn Trucking of Roseville. Don was an
Army veteran of the
Korean conflict and was awarded the Korean service medal, three bronze service stars, and the United Nations service medal. He was very active in his community, becoming a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 71 of Roseville, having served as the commander of Local Post 71 and also as the 11th District Commander.He was also involved in youth sports as a coach in Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball. As a result of his involvement, in 2004 Don received the Award of Merit Induction into the Philo High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Don served for many years on the Roseville Local School Board, including a time as the President of the School Board. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roseville where he drove the church bus for many years and was also a Master Mason at Deavertown Masonic Temple as well as 32nd degree Scottish Rite.Don is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marjorie (McCammon) Dunn, who he married on July 31, 1952; his three sons, Sam (Debbie) Dunn of Dresden, Pat Dunn of Roseville, and Mike (Sheryl) Dunn of Roseville; his sister, Nora Brown of Newark; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Wolfe of South Zanesville; six grandchildren, Cassie, Patrick, Corry, Chris, and Cord Dunn and Jennifer Moore; seven great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Robert, Carrell, and Paul Dunn; grandson, Clint Dunn; and a great-grandson, Cooper Dunn.Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday January 23, 2015 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive White Cottage. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 24, 2015 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Roseville. Rev. Al Laese and Sam Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery where Roseville Legion will conduct military honors. Masonic services will be held at 5:45 p.m. Friday January 23, 2015 at the funeral home.
