Donald James Forbis , 74, passed away on April 21, 2017 in Alamogordo, New Mexico. He was born on October 21, 1942 in El-Paso, Texas to James and Virginia Forbis. Don was a standout 2 sport athlete at Ysleta High School in El Paso. He received his Business Administration Degree at the New Mexico State University where he had a standout baseball career as well. Don helped a disabled girl get around campus as a means to help pay for some of his college tuition. He was a minor league baseball player in the California Angels System. Don worked with Farmers Insurance company for almost 40 years. His main hobby was golf, he would say "golf is a game of patience, it could challenge the spirit and heal the mind."Don was a member of the Methodist Church and raised his family to know and love God. Don left this earth with a relationship with God and will be joining his loving mother, father and daughter whom he loved so much in His Kingdom. Don was a single father who raised, loved and provided for his four kids and was very proud of them. He understood there faults and rarely criticized. He just always wanted the best life possible for each of them. Though quiet and reserved, this one fact was the whole driving force of his life. Survivors include his son, Eric James Forbis; his daughters, Kristina Louise Rich and Karen Lynn Nierenhausen; his brother, Ronald Forbis; his grandchildren, Courtney, Anna, Jennalyn, Lillian, Jordyn, Selena, Addison, Sydney and Ian whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Katherine Marie Eliason. The memorial service for Donald Forbis will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Alamogordo Funeral Home Chapel.Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Otero County Golf Foundation.The Forbis family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.To sign the online register book, please visit
