ANGOLA — Donald Eugene Neuenschwander, age 91, of Angola died peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2015, at his son and daughter-in-law's home in Reading, Michigan. Don was born on July 24, 1923, in Allen County, Ohio, to Walter and Viola Gratz Neuenschwander. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth; and sisters, Magdalene Becker, Maxine Zuercher, and Lois Steiner. He is survived by his loving wife, Anna Marie Kauffman. They were married for 69 1/2 years. Don loved the Lord and lived his life in gratitude for the many blessings he received from the hand of God. He and Ann were blessed with four children, Nancy Maynard (Robert), Jean Henry (Bruce), James (Shirley Koppenol), and Claudia McPhail (Michael), 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. Don loved his family and he will be greatly missed. Don grew up on a farm and developed a lifelong interest in horses and cattle. He became a dairy farmer and also pursued various other businesses throughout his career. He was active in the churches he and his family attended and was most recently a member of the Lake Area Christian Church. Don enjoyed music and as a young adult, he and his friends formed a gospel quartet, singing throughout the area. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at noon at the Lake Area Christian Church, 4670 N. St. S.R. 827, Fremont. Visitation hours will be from 10 a.m. until noon. Beams Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. In keeping with Don's wishes, his body has been donated to Indiana University for medical research. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the South African Christian Mission (c/o Bea Mielke, 2141 Big Cypress Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33810-2309) of which Don was a long-time board member.
