DONALD E. ROBERTSON SR., 80 FREEPORT - Donald E. Robertson Sr., 80, of Freeport, died Thursday May 29, 2014, at the Stephenson Nursing Center. Donald was born on Nov. 26, 1933, in Thomson, the son of Gilbert and Thrilby (Kauffman) Robertson. Donald married Ruth Gillespie on June 25, 1950. Ruth passed away on November 27, 1987. Donald worked for the Freeport Fire Department for 20 years. He owned and operated Robertson Auto Body. Donald worked as a mechanic at Freeport Fast Freight and was previously employed by Lassandro Beverage Distribution. He was a member of Embury United Methodist Church and the Freeport Eagles Club. Donald enjoyed watching NASCAR and dirt racing. Surviving are his wife, Mary Robertson of Freeport; three sons, William Jeffrey (Patty) Robertson, Donald E. (Kelly) Robertson Jr. and Terry (Andrea) Robertson, all of Freeport; one daughter, Cheryl (Wayne) Schofield of Freeport; brother, Gilbert "Gibby" Robertson Jr. of Thomson; 11 grandchildren, Bradley (Tiffany) Schofield, Tina (William) Lingle, Danny Schofield, Alicia (Brandon) Thomas, Shawn (Christy) Robertson, Kari (Todd) Penticoff, Donald E. (Julie) Robertson III, Matthew Robertson, Stacey (Kyle) Wennerburg, Heidi (Joey) Cross and Jamie (Chris) Parham; also surviving are 19 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother; grandson, Greg; and granddaughter, Carolyn. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Burke Tubbs Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Blomberg will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Donald's memory.
