Donald Wilbur "Roby" or "G.R." RoblyerOctober 16, 1926 - November 4, 2014Donald Wilbur "Roby" or "G.R" Roblyer, 88, of Caldwell, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2014. Donald was born on October 16, 1926 to John and Mae Roblyer in Caldwell, ID. Roby lived in Caldwell most of his life, graduating from Caldwell High School. He served in the US. Army in WWII and Korean War Era, and would serve in the Idaho Army National Guard till retirement in 1979 in the 25th Army Band. Donald developed a deep passion for playing musical instruments which he carried with him throughout his life.Roby married Marian in 1947; they were blessed with three children: Jayne, Donald and Dave. Marian passed away in 1997 just after celebrating 50 years of marriage. Donald worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1979. Donald's hobbies included painting, photography, arranging music and playing his instruments in different musical groups in the Caldwell area including directing the Caldwell Centennial Band. Roby lost his eye sight to Macular Degeneration in 2007. Despite difficulty Roby continued to live on his own and enjoyed eating breakfast every morning at the Flying J in Caldwell. When living alone became too much of a burden, Roby moved in with his friend and companion Shirley Hemry. Shirley cared for Roby until his passing. Roby is survived by his daughter, Jayne (John) Slovick, sons: Donald (Julia) Roblyer and Dave (Susie) Roblyer, 6 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and his friend and companion, Shirley Hemry.He is preceded in death by his wife, Marian E. Roblyer, his parents, his sister, Yvonne Judd.A Graveside Service with military honors will be held Friday, November 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Canyon Hill Cemetery in Caldwell.
