Donald RoedDonald E. Roed, 69, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Avera Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD. Donald Everett Roed was born on September 4, 1947 in Crookston, MN to Everett and Beulah (Bergum) Roed. He attended elementary school in Mentor and Crookston, MN, and graduated from T. F. Riggs High School in Pierre, SD in 1965. After graduation, Don enlisted in the United States Navy in 1965, serving aboard the USS Henry B Wilson (DDG-7) and USS O'Bannon (DD-450). He was discharged from the United States Naval Reserve in 1971, attaining the rate and rank of Radarman Third Class, and received the Vietnam Service Medal (with one Bronze Star), the National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal (with Device). On December 31, 1972, Don married Carolyn Ebright in Sioux Falls, SD. In 1979, they moved to Chancellor, SD to raise their family, before moving back to Sioux Falls in 2012. Don worked at John Morrell & Co. for over 44 years, retiring in 2014.Don was a member of the American Legion, Post 283, in Chancellor, SD. He loved fishing, sharing jokes, spending time with his grandchildren, and helping his boys with various mechanical and home improvement projects. Don also loved music, playing the drums in many local bands, and was well known among the Sioux Falls music community. He has been described as kind, fair, funny, genuine, and authentic.Don is survived by his wife Carolyn, Sioux Falls, SD; three sons: Dustan (Sherry) Roed of Sioux Falls, David (Kristi) Roed of Sioux Falls, and Keith (Jennie) Roed of Beresford, SD; six grandchildren: Konur, Haley, Skylar, Ames, Kalan, and Ellis; three sisters: Patricia Skouge of Waco, TX, Gerry Good of Salt Lake City, UT, and Evelyn Gooden of Sierra Vista, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother: Lowell Roed; and sister: Deborah Singer.Funeral services for Don will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2017 at Peace Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
