Donald Eugene Stockdale, 85, of Boise, Idaho passed away October 19, 2016. Don was born on December 31, 1930 in Los Angeles, California. He was the son of Frank Parson Stockdale and Iza Rebecca McGuffin Stockdale. While living in California as a youth, Don spent many hours skin diving for abalone and lobster on the California coast. Fishing became a passion for Don, one that he carried on for the rest of his life. The family made the move from California to Boise in 1947. Don graduated from Boise High School and attended Boise Junior College. In 1950, Don married Patsy Ann Shultz. They had four children: Ronald, Tamara, Rick and Donald. Don passed on his love of the outdoors to his children. The family enjoyed vacations going fishing and camping in Idaho. Don and Patsy divorced in the late 1960s.Don married Wanda Finney in 1981 after getting reacquainted at a Boise High School class reunion. They made their home in Boise and enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping together. Their much-loved schnauzers, Heidi and Suzie, accompanied them on many trips. After Wanda's passing, the dogs were Don's devoted companions. It was a sad day for him when they both passed.Fishing continued to be a favorite pastime for Don. He was an avid fly fisherman, fishing the Clearwater and Salmon Rivers for steelhead and for salmon in Alaska. Lake fishing in Idaho, Oregon and Montana provided Don with many enjoyable trips fishing for trout and pan fish. Don was a founding member of the Boise Valley Fly Fishing Club. He participated in events sponsored by the club and formed lifelong friendships during that time. After retirement, Don began fishing in Baja California. For eight years he spent the winter months in Los Barriles, fishing every day and enjoying the camaraderie of a great group of friends. These years formed some of Don's fondest memories. When fall came, Don was also an enthusiastic Boise State Football fan. He attended many games and continued to follow the Broncos on TV when he was no longer able to attend games. In his professional life, Don owned and operated Stockdale Tree Care in Boise, Idaho. For over 40 years, Don made many long-time customers who valued both his work and work ethic. His son Rick eventually acquired the business and continues to operate Stockdale Tree Care today.Don was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Iza Stockdale; his younger brother Jack Stockdale; his wife Wanda; his grandson Samuel Eugene Stockdale; and his ex-wife Patsy Burton.Don is survived by his children, Ronald E.
