Donald L. Yorty Sr. June 27, 1925 - April 10, 2017CornwallDonald L. Yorty Sr., 91, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 in the Lebanon V.A. Medical Center. He was born on June 27, 1925 in Minersvillage, Cornwall, a son of the late Lester L. and M. Matilda Leibig Yorty. Donald was the husband of Theresa R. Matters Yorty who passed away January 21, 2009. Mr. Yorty was an ore miner and retired from Bethlehem Steel. He served his country in the U.S. Navy Seabees during WWII, where he was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon (One Star), American Theater Ribbon and Victory Medal. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Post #23, Lebanon, and the Seabees of America, 110th Seabees. He served in the Marshall Islands on Eniwetok and Tinian where he helped to build the airstrip the Enola Gay flew from. He was a member of the American Legion, Annville and Navy Club Ship #91, Lebanon. He served for nearly two decades as the Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of Cornwall. He loved to camp and was a great storyteller around the campfire. He was a longtime member of the Cornwall United Methodist Church. Surviving are his sons, Donald L. Yorty Jr., partner of Dr. Ahm Akram of New York City; Scott A., husband of Patricia, Cornwall; daughters, Catherine L, wife of Larry Cox, Cornwall, Margaret A., wife of John Dullebawn Jr., Lebanon, and Jennifer L., wife of José Montanez, Lebanon; grandchildren, John A. Dullebawn III, Christopher Dullebawn, Matthew Cox, Dr. James Cox, Sara Arnold, and Daniel Yorty; great-grandchildren, Jayden, and Brooke Lynn Dullebawn, and Orion Scott Arnold; sister, Nancy A. McDevitt of Cornwall; and a cousin, Robert Yorty of Annville. Donald was predeceased by a brother, George A. Yorty; and a sister, Louise E. Kahlbaugh. A memorial service will be held at the Cornwall United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 3, 2017. Visitors are welcome from 10 - 11 a.m.; the service will be from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., and lunch will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.
