Donna Fowler, 69, passed away on June 25, 2022 in her home in Albuquerque, NM. She was born to Donald and Louella (Ali) Fowler on December 31, 1952.
Donna spent much of her childhood with her Grandmother, (Lola) Fern Campbell Fowler, fostering her love of all animals. At a young age she was passionate about horses and this love continued throughout her life. She graduated from Valley High School in 1970 and briefly thought about continuing on to become a nurse, like her mother, but soon realized that the sight of blood made her feel faint. She tried her hand at retail sales in Western wear and thrived in this setting for many years, amassing impressive collections of hats, boots and clothing.
She was New Mexico Appaloosa Queen in 1971 and competed in countless equestrian shows in her lifetime, winning infinite accolades, belt buckles, ribbons and plaques over the course of her carreer. She eventually transitoned to miniature horses and cart driving and continued enjoying the arena until just a few years ago.
On a daily basis, she enjoyed her dogs, cats and birds. She had an aviary in her home boasting African Grays, parakeets, love birds and finches.
In addition to her love of animals, she had a passion for her family, building a granny flat for Fern and later, taking care of her Mother, Ali, until their last days. She adored all plants and flowers, and her yard in the dessert was a literal oasis. She annually traveled to Hawaii to visit her mother's family and had a passion for dolphins and whales. In addition to Hawaii, she traveled to Mexico and Las Vegas.
She loved Country music, dancing and always knew how to have a good time! She had a generous heart and a tender soul. Hers was a life well lived!
She's survived by her brother, Daniel C. Newbill, III, (Mary Jane), brother William A.M. Newbill (Beth), and sister, Lexie O. Birmelin (Arthur), three nephews and one niece.
A small private service will be held at her home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Donna's name to your favorite animal shelter.
