DONNA JEAN DENTONLong-time Juneau resident Donna Denton passed away on Wednesday, June 25, after a battle with cancer. She was 84. She was born on July 16, 1929 in Seattle, Washington to Albin "Andy" and Mabel Anderson. She attended Reed College and then married Gavin Denton; they recently celebrated their sixty-fifth anniversary. In 1968, they moved to Juneau with three of their four daughters and settled in a beach house near Lena Loop where they remained for 46 years, raising their children and enjoying boating, fishing, gardening, and reading. In 1989, Donna was one of three women who started the Friends of the Library Amazing Bookstore and for twenty-five years she scheduled the more than seventy volunteers who keep the bookstore operating, while also working behind the scenes sorting and pricing books. She volunteered her time to numerous other organizations over the years as well, including the Friends of the Alaska State Museum and the Juneau Garden Club. She was honored several times by the Juneau Assembly for her work.She is survived by her husband, Gavin Denton; daughters Roxana Augusztiny and Andrea Kinnaman of Seattle; Hali Denton and Kelda Denton of Juneau, and granddaughters Kelsey and Lindsey Barker of Juneau.At her request, there will be no funeral or memorial services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Friends of the Juneau Public Libraries, 292 Marine Way, Juneau, AK 99801.
