Donna Mae Christiansen, 94Donna Mae Christiansen, 94, of Iowa City, passed away on October 18, 2017, at Atrium Village in Hills, Iowa.Per Donna's wishes, a private service will be held with interment at Davenport's Oakdale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Boston, , or .Donna Mae Geertz was born on December 12, 1922, in Davenport, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Geertz (1961) and Paula Ankerson (1973); her husband of nearly 59 years, attorney Clarence H. Christiansen (2001); her sister, June Moore-Cummins (2000); her brother, Julius Geertz, Jr. (1921); and her daughter-in-law, Cherise Christiansen (2006). Donna was a great granddaughter of Scott County pioneers Frank P. Koehler and George P. Ankerson, who arrived in Davenport in 1852 and 1853, respectively.After graduating from Davenport High School in 1941, Donna attended Drake University on a drama scholarship before transferring to the University of Iowa. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority at both schools. Donna married Clarence Christiansen on March 20, 1943, in Davenport. She served as president of the Scott County Bar Association Women's Auxiliary, Chi Omega Alumnae of the Quad-Cities, and Chapter DO of the T.T.T. Society.Donna enjoyed oil painting, genealogy, bridge, crossword puzzles, scrapbooking, playing the piano, and world travel, especially the many trips to her beloved British Isles. She loved historical books, especially biographies of George Washington, and had an abiding love of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol." She was interested in astrology, had a flair for jewelry, and an encyclopedic knowledge of actors, movies, and TV shows. A splendid homemaker and marvelous cook, Donna worked hard to create lasting holiday memories for her loved ones.Her family will long remember a generous and compassionate mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who was resolute, forthright, and possessed of a keen intellect, remarkable memory, and deep religious faith. Most of all, they will remember that family was always the most important thing in her life.Donna is survived by her daughter Joan Green (John), Oxford, Ohio; sons Dana (Patricia), Gresham, Oregon, and Scott (Carol Ann), Iowa City; grandsons Matthew Green (Paula), Oxford, Ohio, and Andrew Christiansen (Minneapolis); granddaughters Captain (USN) Lee Anne Vitatoe (David), Virginia Beach, and Melodee Bashir (Iowa City); great granddaughters Valerie and Norah Green, Oxford, Ohio; and great grandsons Nicolas and Luca Vitatoe, Virginia Beach.Donna's family extends their gratitude to Beckie Sladek and the rest of the Atrium Village staff for their loving and compassionate care during her last two years.Online condolences may be left at www.rungemortuary.com.
