Donna Valenty ShuckApril 28, 1940 - July 12, 2014Donna Jean Valenty Shuck, age 74, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away peacefully of natural causes, on July 12, 2014. Donna was born on April 28, 1940 to John R. and Melba (Ruth) Valenty. Her early childhood was spent in the Chubbuck/Tyhee area. At the age of two, she was joined by a brother, Ronald. She was later joined by another brother, David, born to John R. & Cassie Valenty. Donna attended school at St. Joseph's Parochial School, later she attended Tyhee Elementary, Alameda Junior High, and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1958. After graduation, she attended Western Michigan University where she studied elementary education for two years. She then returned to Pocatello to attend Grimm's Business College. Donna married Kenneth Ray Shuck on August 18, 1964 in Pocatello. They moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where Kenneth was stationed in the Navy. It was here that their son, John (Darren) Shuck, was born.Donna enjoyed reading and writing poetry, drawing, and knitting, but her greatest hobby was serving others. She volunteered with the Head Start Program at Tyhee Elementary as well as CASA of Southeast Idaho. Her greatest service was to her family, in the roles of Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Donna & Ken fostered many children over the years. Several of these children were raised as if they were their own. Chriss Hoffer was one that Donna held very dear to her heart. She helped Chriss raise her daughters Brooke Hoffer and Brittany Sweat. She loved being a Grandmother to Brooke and Brittany and Great Grandmother to their daughters, Blake and Elexciah. She was preceded in death by her father, John Valenty, her mother, Ruth Walker, and her half-brother Daniel Rosenthal. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Kenneth Shuck, her brothers, Ronnie Valenty and David Valenty of Chubbuck, her stepmother, Cassie Valenty of Chubbuck, her half- brother, David Rosenthal, her half-sister Diane Rosenthal Blank, her son Darren (Valerie) Shuck of Nampa, her granddaughter Diana (Curtis) Sanderson of Logan, and four grandsons, Tony, Ryan, Aidan, and Jordan Shuck of Nampa. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the LDS Church on U.S. HWY 91 between Reservation Rd and Ballard Rd in Tyhee.
