Dorcas I. CasteraASHLAND: Dorcas I. Castera, 93, of Ashland passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Brethren Care Village. Dorcas was born on September 13, 1923 in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Samuel and Pearl (Heimburger) Bertsch.Dorcas was a loving mother, beloved grandmother and wife. She was kind hearted and always wanted to help others. She was faithful to the First Apostolic Church of Ashland. Dorcas found great joy in her daily devotions and Bible reading. She was an excellent seamstress and great cook. She used these skills to bless others. In her spare time she enjoyed fishing, crocheting, and knitting. She was a firm believer that age was just a number and stayed fiesty up until the end of her life.Dorcas leaves behind her two children, Cheryl (Edward) Kelley and Jeanette (Cledith) Webb; ten grandchildren, Gaylynn, James, Lisa, Chris, Edward "Marty", Andrew (Heather), Jeremy (Cassandra), Shawn (Brandi), Duane (Brenda) and Crystal; twenty three great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; and a sister, Shirley (Jerry) Ellis.She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 32 years, Edward Castera; a daughter, Diane Davis; and five siblings, Eugene, Calvin, Bernard, and Richard Bertsch and Frances Davis. The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Ave., Ashland, OH. The funeral service conducted by Rev. Darin Pritt will be held at 4:00 p.m. A private burial will take place at a later date in Lantz Cemetery.
