Doris Ann Adams, 81, of Edgewood, passed away at 10:01 p.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, with viewing one hour before services, at First Baptist Church in Effingham, with Larry Cline and Roger Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Alton Cemetery in Alton. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorials: Donor's choice. Pagel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences can be expressed at www.pagelfuneralhome.com.Mrs. Adams was born on July 1, 1936, in Alton, the daughter of Albert and Pearl (Plager) Deucker. She married D. Phillip Adams on Dec. 24, 1966, in Alton; he preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 1999.Doris earned her master's degree from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville and was an elementary education teacher of the Roxana School District. She later taught GED classes and Adult Basic Education for Kaskaskia College at the Vandalia Campus. She held many other positions in the Effingham area. She was a volunteer with the CEFS Literacy Program and Community Support Systems. Doris loved spending quality time with her grandchildren. She also loved to sing, dance and travel.She is survived by her son, Phillip Adams and Joann Reeves of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter, Kristin and her husband William Gharst of Watson; grandchildren, Brittany Adams, Tylar Adams, Adam Gharst and Emily Gharst; and stepgrandchildren, Kevin Reeves and Brandon Reeves.She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
