Doris Chalma BrockDes MoinesDoris Chalma Brock was born on June 21st, 1927 to Bill and Isaphene Chalma. She died on December 23rd, 2016 in the loving arms of her husband, John. Doris and John would have been married for 70 years in March. They have had a spectacular life together.Doris and John have two daughters, Judy (George) Weiner and Paula (Joe) McManus. They cherish 3 grandchildren, John (McB), Kyle (Sara)McManus and Lauren (Phil) Horn. They also have 4 great grandchildren.Doris was a homemaker, a talented seamstress, a wonderful cook and baker, and a gifted poet. She had several of her poems published through Hallmark. Doris became an LPN and worked in a medical clinic, as well as a retirement home. She was a valued volunteer at Mercy Hospice for many years, culminating in earning the "State Volunteer of the Year" award in 2003. Doris loved her Hawkeyes. Go Hawks!Doris truly was one of the most exceptional individuals on earth. If you had the great blessing to know her, you received a beautiful gift of love, compassion, wit and delight. She was preceded in death by her parents and two cherished sisters, Shirley Tesdall and Marian Templer. The family will receive friends from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, at Scottish Rite Park Penthouse, 2909 Woodland Ave. Des Moines. A Memorial Service will be held at Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church, 4601 Douglas Ave., Des Moines on Wednesday, December 28th, 2016 at 1:00pm.
