HANCOCK COUNTY — Doris Elizabeth Edens Leonard, 96, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 16, 2016. She was born on August 8, 1920 and was a lifelong resident of Hancock County. Doris was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a faithful member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Doris was also an avid gardener as well as a talented seamstress and quilter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edens and Lucy Ann Gilbert Edens; husband, Robert Leonard; sisters, Hattie Lee Cheek, Lassie Mae Miller, and Flora Irene Shupe; brothers, Clyde Russell Edens, Charles Wayland Edens, and Edward Howard Edens.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Alberta Leonard Roemer, and husband Frederick A. Roemer III of Knoxville, Tennessee; beloved granddaughters, Ashley Roberta Roemer of Knoxville, Tennessee and Jennifer Elaine Roemer of Memphis, Tennessee; many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and special friends and neighbors, Julie and Boyd Pauley.
The family received friends on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Mount Zion Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Robert Minton and Reverend Travis Pressnell officiating. Music provided by Bonnie Manning, Boyd Manning and Travis Pressnell. Burial in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
