Doris Lucille Manker Doris Lucille (Mangiarelli) Manker passed away at home on Sept. 22, 2017. She was born on March 7, 1940 in Providence, Rhode Island to Santo and Giovannina (Granieri) Mangiarelli. Doris was a 1957 graduate of West Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. While growing up Doris enjoyed the weekly Sunday dinners with family, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She also enjoyed spending time at the beach and working at her family pizza establishment at Rocky Point Amusement Park. In 1959, Doris moved from Rhode Island to San Diego, CA with parents and her younger brother. Then in 1963 she met her future husband, Clarence F. Manker who was in the US Marine Corp stationed at Camp Matthews, CA. Clarence and Doris were married in San Diego on May 9, 1964. After Clarence left the Marine Corp the couple briefly lived in Vancouver, WA. Upon Clarence's enlistment in USAF in 1965 they moved to the Philippines, were Doris worked Civil service, processing incoming wounded soldiers from Vietnam. After leaving the Philippines, the couple moved to Hill AFB, UT. Then in 1969, Doris moved back to San Diego to be with her family while Clarence was in Vietnam. Upon Clarence's return the couple moved to George AFB, CA. where they adopted their only child, Julie, in Oct. 1970. From CA. the family moved to Lowery AFB, CO in 1971. From CO. the family moved to Tainan AB in Taiwan in 1974. After Taiwan the family moved to McChord AFB, WA in 1975, where Doris worked for The Olympian as secretary to the editor, a job she fondly remembered. From WA., the family moved back to Lowery AFB, CO. in 1978, where Doris worked as a secretary for the Aurora City Attorney's Office. Then in 1980 Clarence was medically retired from the USAF and the family moved back to Olympia. In 1983 Clarence and Doris purchased a piece of property where they built their dream house, and where Doris lived for the next 34 yrs. When Doris's granddaughter, Ashley began school at South Bay Elementary in 1998, Doris became a classroom volunteer. Over the course of the next 18 yrs, Doris volunteered for a number of teachers often multiple times a week. She was recognized for her volunteer service by both the South Bay and Washington State PTA with the Golden Acorn Award. In addition to volunteering at South Bay, Doris spent many years preparing and serving lunch on Thursdays at
the Salvation Army Kitchen with other members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Doris also was an active member of the North Thurston High School Booster Club and the Nisqually Military Widows. Doris always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, gardening, and watching the wildlife in her backyard. Ashley was the apple of Doris's eye and she never missed an opportunity to support Ashley in her numerous activities, from soccer to tennis to Girl Scouts to years of traveling around to see her play volleyball. Doris was always in the stands cheering her "Baby Doll" on. Doris was proceeded in death by her husband, Clarence F. Manker and parents, Santo and Giovannina (Jenny) Mangiarelli. She is survived by her daughter, Julie Manker; granddaughter, Ashley Harper both of Olympia; brothers Richard (Jan) Mangiarelli of San Diego and Ron (Sandy) Mangiarelli of CO. Springs; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 28, 2017 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 812 Bowker ST. SE, Lacey WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher House, 90700 Gardner Loop, Tacoma WA. 98431 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
