Doris M. KunzDes MoinesDoris Marie Kunz, 90, passed away from this life with lung cancer on June 11, 2017, at Calvin Community. Her children were by her side.Doris was born on October 3, 1926 in State Center, Iowa, to Carl John and Amanda Johanna Marie (Schaper) Fehrle. She was raised on a farm and graduated from State Center High School in 1944. Thereafter, she moved to Des Moines and enrolled in cosmetology school. A few years later, she met and married her soul mate, William Henry Kunz, who she had met through mutual friends; they were joined in holy matrimony on May 7, 1949 and shared over 65 years of marriage together.Doris was a simple woman who lived a large life! After her kids were all in school, she returned to The Principal Life Insurance Company for 20 years, retiring as a Mail Services Section Leader in 1990. Doris and Bill enjoyed bowling and traveling together, quite often to casinos. She was involved in various church activities at St. Theresa's Catholic Church including the Altar & Rosary Society, singing in the choir, cooking for the homeless, and coordinating gatherings for the over 50's club. Over the years, Doris took pleasure in embroidery, playing poker and cards with friends, reading, cooking and baking. She was most "at home" in the kitchen - the scent of homemade pies, cinnamon rolls and cookies often permeated the household when one visited.Doris is survived by her brothers, Donald of Marshalltown and Elmer (Helen) of Cedar Rapids; children, Christine (Jerry) McClelland and Roger (Sally) Kunz both of Urbandale, Conrad (Rebekah Burnett) Kunz of Boerne, Texas, Cynthia Vuper and Mary Kunz, both of Ankeny. She is also loved and remembered by nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren. She was also a well admired aunt. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ralph of Marshalltown; husband, and son, Curtis Kunz of San Jose, California. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doris's memory may be directed to St. Theresa's Catholic Church Foundation Fund. The family would like to thank Dr. Kristi Blomberg and the staff at Calvin Community for their compassion and care showered on this special woman.
