DORIS M. LIGGETT

Doris Mae Liggett, 91, of El Centro passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014. Doris was born on December 1, 1922 in Belleville, MI. After graduation from Belleville High School in June 1941, Doris was employed by the Ford Motor Co. in its famous mile long plant Willow Run Airport, building B24 bombers during WWII for the war effort. While working there, she met her future husband, Robert V. Liggett. They were married on April 7, 1945. Doris was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom of five children throughout her 64 year marriage. She followed her husband's career to Ypsilanti, MI, St. Joseph, MI and South Bend, IN. In 1968, the family moved to El Centro, CA where husband, Robert, served as Managing Editor of the Imperial Valley Press. Doris was an active member of the Methodist Women's Group at the First United Methodist Church of El Centro and loved to sew and read. She is survived by her four children, Claudia Liggett Hook of Estes Park, CO, Robert Scott and his wife Kathleen of Mishawaka, IN, Brian K. and his wife Christina, and Jeffrey, all of El Centro. She is also survived by her 9 grandchildren, Liesl Hook Langmack and Kimberly Hook of Cleveland, OH, Kristina Mae Hook of Beaverdam, VA, Scott Weston and his wife, Sierra of Mishawaka, IN, Brian, Cynthia, Lucy, Robert Anthony and Tevin Daniel, all of El Centro; 4 great grandsons, CJ, Carter, and Kyle Langmack and Michael Hook of Cleveland, OH and a great granddaughter, Eleanor Liggett of Mishawaka, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2009; her son, Gary W., who died in 2009 leaving his wife, Lucy, a daughter and two sons. Gifts will be gratefully accepted for the First United Methodist Church of El Centro and the Humane Society of the Imperial Valley. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in El Centro.
