Doris J. PolitesYorkDoris Jeanne (Morrette) Polites passed away on November 18, 2015. She was born on December 5 1929, to Grace (Gluntz) Morrette and Franklin Morrette.Doris graduated from Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C. and earned her BS degree from the University of Maryland. She later earned a Master's degree from Shippensburg.Doris' career in the public school system began in 1952 as a physical education teacher and coach. However, she was a first grade teacher in the Central York School District for most of her career and retired in 1997.As a proud mother and grandmother, Doris was a wellspring of love, kindness, and support. As a teacher, she was respected for her acumen, expertise, and devotion to her students. She loved her colleagues and was passionate about her profession.Doris' retirement years were active and rewarding. She applied her experience and expertise as a first grade teacher to teach and motivate her grandchildren. When her grandchildren were young, Doris would play the piano and sing the same songs that she had played in the classroom. During retirement, she resided with two of her grandchildren, Viktor and Ellen Grace. She often talked about how much she enjoyed the daily routine of listening to them practice and develop their musicianship. Doris was a lifelong learner with a fascination about United States history. She traveled extensively and attended many lectures to expand her knowledge about the American West, Revolutionary War, and Civil War. She had a deep appreciation for the sheer beauty of our country and visited many of our national parks. Even as her eyesight dimmed, her enthusiasm for reading never faltered and she was looking forward to attending a book club meeting on the day she died.In addition to her love of family, Doris will be remembered for the special lifelong bonds she established and strengthened throughout the years with her many cherished friends.Doris was preceded in death by her dear sister, Frances A. Krowe, and is survived by Frances' husband, Allen and their two daughters, Vicki and Valerie. She is also survived by her sons, Bill, Bob, and Mark, and their wives, Eva, Robin, and Dori. Doris' grandchildren are Nicole, Bob, Viktor, Ellen Grace, Kyle, and Tess.A celebration of Doris' life will be held on Friday, November 27, at 3 p.m. at Advent Lutheran Church, 1775 E.
