Dr. Doris Roettger-SvobodaMankato, MNDr. Doris Roettger-Svoboda, age 84, finished her time on earth and entered the promised rest secured for her by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is currently experiencing joyous fellowship with God her Father that no one this side of heaven can fully know.Funeral services for Doris will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Mankato Mortuary in Mankato, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before the service on Saturday. Burial will take place at New Bethlehem Cemetery in St. Louis, MO on Monday.Doris was born on September 15, 1932 to Rev. A.G. and Mildred Dornfeld and was the oldest of five children. She married Charles Roettger in 1955 and the two settled in Des Moines, IA so Charles could teach at Drake University. While there, they had a son Jim and she earned her Ph. D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Iowa. Doris and Charles loved to spend time with family, to go to concerts and the theatre, and were involved in their church.After the death of Charles, Doris married Cliff Svoboda. The two enjoyed many happy years together and enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. They were actively involved in their church where Doris enjoyed working with the children's and outreach ministries along with being involved with several Bible study groups.In her professional career, she taught at Drake University and Iowa State University and worked for the state of Iowa. In all of these capacities, her desire was to help children with reading disabilities learn to love reading and train other teachers to become better teachers. She was a long-time member of the International Reading Association and served as its president from 1993 to 1994.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
