Dorothy CoonORION - Dorothy Jane Coon, 90, of Orion passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017, at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo.She was born on February 7, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio, to Herman and Amelia (Lily) Stutz. They preceded her in death.She first married Dr. L.C. Burt. He preceded her in death in 1968. She later married Carl Woody. He preceded her in death in 1986. She lastly married Sanford Coon, and he also preceded her in death in 2003.Surviving are her children, Lawrence (Pam) Burt of Jacksonville, IL, Cheryl (Thomas) Fleming of Orion and Marie (Terry) McWhirter of Brimfield; four step-children, Clark Woody, Jake Woody, Jeffrey Coon and Sandra (Lynn) McCorry; sister, Sue Miller; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many precious great-great-grandchildren.Also preceding her in death were one brother, Jim Stutz; one sister, Alice Rainey; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and one step-son, Ronald.Dorothy worked as veterinarian assistant. She was member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Elmwood and a member of the Eastern Star. She was very community minded and loved animals, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a Scrabble addict!A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at 1st Presbyterian Church in Elmwood, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. A lunch will follow the service at the church and the burial will be held at 3 p.m. at the Rosehill Cemetery in Petersburg.
