CALDWELL, Dorothy Eunice (Chattell) 1929 – 2017 Dorothy Eunice (Chattell) Caldwell, 1929 – 2017, of Brentwood Bay, BC passed away in her home on January 12, 2017 at the age of 87, surrounded by her family. Dorothy is survived by her sister Pearl (Harold) Miller; and her five children, James (Toni) Caldwell, Kandis (Glenn) Harrison, Debra (Rudy) van Berkel, Kathleen Caldwell (Rob Kovacs), Ian Caldwell (Leah Cree); as well as her ten grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eunice and Edward Chattell and her stepmother Elizabeth Viola Chattell. Dorothy was born on October 10th, 1929 in Qualicum Beach, BC. She was the eldest of two children. She grew up in Victoria, graduated from Oak Bay High in 1949 and graduated from business school in 1950. Dorothy then worked for St. Joseph Hospital until 1956. Dorothy married in 1952, had her first child in 1956 and over fourteen years had four more children. The family moved in 1971 to Saanichton, BC, where she raised her five children on her own. Her children remember her as a kind, strong and gentle woman and a patient mother who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Dorothy returned to work in 1981 for the Sisters of Saint Anne. When she retired in 1992 it gave her more time to enjoy gardening and painting as well as her grandchildren that she loved so dearly. She will be remembered as a loyal sister, beautiful, strong mother, devoted and loving grandmother and kind friend. With special thanks to Dr. Linda Wilson and all the wonderful nurses and care workers. A memorial is scheduled for February 3rd at 2:00 pm at the First Memorial Funeral Home, 4725 Falaise Drive Victoria, BC with a reception to follow.
