Dorothy Gillis, born June 15,1936 in New Orleans, Louisiana. To the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Lucy Gillis. she was the third eldest of their children.Martha Louise Spears, Margie Jackson, Victoria, Gillis, Mildred G Perkins, Joran Gray, and Josephine Lucas. she graduated from Booker T. Washington high school in 1955. She moved to Los Angeles, California in 1956 where she continued her education and obtained her nursing degree. She worked as a registered nurse for Los Angeles County where she retired November 27, 1987. she loved her profession so she continued to work at through multiple nurses registries when she finally retired after 56 years of service.
when not caring for her patient Miss Gillis enjoyed several hobbies which included hunting, gardening,cooking,fishing and traveling. She instilled the passion of hard work.education and being helpful to others in her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.
She departed this life peacefully on September 27, 2024. She has proceeded in death by her parents, sisters Martha, Margie, Victoria, and Joran. and her longtime friend the late Quintel Webb. She leaves behind cherish memories of her only daughter by Dorsandra Garcia-Heard grandchildren Tanisha Heard (Micheal) James Heard, Christopher Ludgood (Wykelia). Great grandchildren Alexis Benjamin, Michael Gibson, Marisol Heard, Heaven Herrera, Jade Gibson, and Cameron Ludgood. Great great granddaughter(Muffin). Her two sisters mildred, G Perkins and Josephine Lucas. Including a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
