Dorothy "Dottie" (Bowman) HighDorothy "Dottie" (Bowman) High died in her home on February 14, 2017 at age 90.Dottie was born on June 9, 1926 in Burlington, IN. She graduated from Burlington High School and attended Kokomo Junior College and IU extension in Kokomo. On December 7, 1947, she married Jack High who preceded her in death in June 2009. The Highs worked and raised children in Lafayette with Dottie serving as cub scout and girl scout leader, school volunteer, etc. Dottie taught at and directed Southside Nursery School for 16 years. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years at Immanuel United Church of Christ. She was elected Tippecanoe County Recorder, served for two terms and retired in 1991. Dorothy dedicated her remaining time to educating and caring for her grandchildren and serving Christ's ministry through her church. Dottie was a loving, patient, and supportive wife, mother, friend and neighbor. She hoped "she left a bit of joy to those she met in her lifetime."Dottie loved Jesus Christ, her family, and her church family. She is survived by her son Michael (companion Donna Foust) of Naylor, MO; son John (wife Tricia) of Denton, TX; daughter Luann Vought (husband Tom); sister Rosemary Dimitt; sister Martha Messerly; grandchildren Cory Vought (Virginia), Joseph Vought (Megan), Matt Vought (Maria), Christopher High (Sarah), Natalie High (companion Matthew Grimsley), Ian High and four great grand children.She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her son Edward High, and her brother Joseph Bowman.Visitation 2 hours prior to the 4 p.m., memorial service, Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Christ United Methodist Church, 3610 S. 18th St, Lafayette.The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
