Dorothy was born on November 30, 1932 to Louis and Mary (Markovich) Klun. She resided in Whiting her entire life until the last two years, moving to Valparaiso Indiana to be near her daughters' homes. She was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1951. A lifelong member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church later becoming a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Whiting and then St. Ann of the Dunes in Beverly Shores. A strong Catholic faith and strong family bond were the most important aspects of her life. Along with being a homemaker and raising five girls, she also worked out of her home as a seamstress. She was employed as a seamstress/tailor by; The Key Club in Munster, Edward C. Minas in Hammond, Burtons Men's Wear and Helen's House of Fashion in Whiting among other local businesses. Dorothy was a very active member in the community. She was a member of the Whiting Knights of Columbus Wives Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Clark High School PTA and Band Booster Club. During her husband Dick's tenure as American Legion Commander of the State of Indiana she took her role as first lady very seriously accompanying him all over the state and country for events. Dorothy loved her family, would do anything for a neighbor, was a devoted friend and taught her daughters the value of "visiting" as we never missed a Sunday visitation to an elderly friend or family member. After Dick's death, she spent many evenings with her Lake Avenue neighbors watching the sunsets while reminiscing about old times. Most of all, Dorothy loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, especially in the early years at our Lake Avenue Fourth of July picnics and then later at our huge traditional yearly Thanksgiving feasts. Dorothy was a gentle, kind and gracious person who made everyone feel welcome in her home and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. www.baranfh.com (219)659-4400
