Dorothy Kraftschenk RACINE Dorothy Kraftschenk, 99, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Harmony of Racine. She was born on July 19, 1914, in the city of Racine, and lived here most of her life. The daughter of George and Augusta (nee: Salga) Kraftschenk. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church, the Retired Officers Association, the Retired Army Nurse Corps, the Wisconsin Military Retiree Alliance, the YMCA, the Womans Club of Racine, the Lakeview Senior Citizens (Jolly Times) Club, and the Retired Inactive Nurses Group. Ms. Kraftschenk graduated from Marquette University, College of Nursing Milwaukee, where she received her Nursing Certificate and from Denver University, Denver, Colorado, where she received her degree in Nursing Education. She joined the United States Army Nurse Corps in August 1941, and remained on active duty until her retirement in 1967 as Lieutenant Colonel. After returning to civilian life, she worked at Lincoln Lutheran Nursing Home for six years, and then enjoyed her remaining years being active in church and community affairs. Dorothy is survived by nieces, Lorraine (Jim) Schaefer, Nancy (John) Smith, and Ida (Bill) Niebur all from Racine; nephews, Don (Sue) Jaeck of Racine and Rev. Kenneth Schwengel of Bowie, MD. Also surviving are other relatives and many friends, including very close friends, Mardelle Fleming and family, Nancy Martin of IL. and Sally Mathews of AK. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, one brother, Paul; four sisters, Sophie Schwengel, Lydia Jaeck, Helen Kitz and Ida Conrad; nieces and nephews, Doris Wiskirchen, John Schwengel James Schwengel Funeral services will be held at the Evangelical United Methodist Church, 11th and Main Streets on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. John Fleming and Rev. Dr. Creighton Kaye officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the church on Monday, before services from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. Memorials to the Music Fund of the Evangelical United Methodist Church or to ones favorite charity have been suggested.
