Dorothy Frances (Hander) Myhre passed away at 3:23 in the morning of Oct. 14, 2017, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, following a recent battle with cancer. Dorothy was born on July 10, 1939, to Thomas and Frances (Hunfeld) Hander in Rochester. She attended St. Charles High School and graduated in 1957 as the class valedictorian. She then attended Rochester Junior College while working at Saint Marys Hospital. She married Richard (Dick) Oswald Myhre on Aug. 23, 1958, at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. Together, they lived in Stewartville for 55 years and raised three children. They moved to Rochester in October 2012. Besides being a fulltime mother, Dorothy also held several jobs outside the home. Between 1971 and 1980, she worked as a dietician at the Stewartville nursing home and at the Senior Citizen Center in Rochester. In 1980, she began working as a bookkeeper for the City of Stewartville. After Dorothy retired, she continued working various jobs: manager of the off-sale at the Stewartville Municipal Liquor Store, Back-Treatment Center of Rochester, and Valley Heritage of Spring Valley. She also enjoyed serving on the board and performing volunteer work with her friends at Fairway Ridge in Rochester. Dorothy's love of travel began in 1972 when she and Dick took their first trip to Hawaii. They subsequently traveled to Hawaii three more times and to many locations throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. Dorothy also enjoyed traveling around the world to places such as Nova Scotia, Panama, Portugal, Spain, China, Thailand, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland and Israel. Dorothy interests included snowmobiling, camping, reading, cooking, cardmaking, car races (especially the Wissota 100 in Cedar Lake, Wis.), and collecting antiques. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Richard; brothers Darrell (Judy) and David; sister, Mary (Roger) Burt; children, Jean (Larry) of Oronoco, Scott (Silvia) of San Diego, and Mark (Sharon) of Brainerd, Minn.; grandchildren, Jake of San Diego, Carl (Jessica) of Roseville, Minn., Sara (Nick) Amys of St. Croix, USVI, and Kevin of Fayetteville, N.C.; and great-grandchildren, Boaz and Naomi. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Frances Hander; and her sister-in-law, Carol Hander. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
