Polakowski, DorothyDorothy May (Edelin) Polakowski was called home to God on November 11, 2016, just 27 days after her 86th birthday. She was born on October 4, 1930, in Washington, D.C. to parents Bernard Edelin and Nellie (Lightfoot) Edelin. On November 26, 1949 she was married to the love of her life, William PolakowskiIt seems fitting that Dorothy passed away on Veteran's Day because she fought a valiant fight against Alzheimer's until the very end. She was also the family hero in the trenches of marriage and motherhood, raising six children in a happy and healthy home. She was a homemaker whose fresh baked chocolate chip and peanut butter cookies were always a hit. In earlier years she and Bill loved to travel to all the various locations their children and other family members lived. She also loved to cross-stitch so the family has many beautiful homemade memories to cherish. Her friends knew her as "Dot", her family called her Mom, and now she is an Angel in Heaven.Dorothy is survived by William Polakowski her husband of 67 years, and her sister Lorraine Ermel. She is also survived by two daughters, Peggy Rusch of Surfside Beach, SC and Betty Bressers (Jim) of Broken Arrow, OK, and three sons, Joseph (Nancy) of Milwaukee, WI, Michael (Kathy) of Tucson, AZ, and David (Monica) of Holt, MI, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Lynn, her parents, and her siblings, Edith, Bernard, and John. For the past 15 months Dorothy and Bill have resided at Living Tree Estates in Greenville, WI. The loving and tender care she received was the spark in her final days, and the family is grateful for the kind efforts of all the staff to make her feel at home.A mass will be held in her honor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St Appleton, WI on Friday, November 18th at 2pm.
