Dorothy Marie Swan, age 92, of Waukee, IA, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2017. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Stevens Memorial Chapel (607 28th St., Ames, IA 50010) from 10-11 a.m., the funeral service will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11 a.m. following the visitation. Burial will follow services in the Ames Municipal Cemetery. All are invited to a luncheon following interment at Stevens Memorial Chapel. She was born on January 30, 1925 in Kossuth County, Iowa to Frank and Mary (Simitz) Haisman. She married Earl Swan on February 19, 1946. They were blessed with seven children. Dorothy graduated from Maple Hill High School in 1934. In her younger days, she ran a daycare out of her home, she worked as a typist, and eventually when the kids were off to school worked and retired as a machine operator for 3M of Ames. Dorothy enjoyed her time in the garden, cooking, camping and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. After retirement Earl and Dorothy spent time traveling to Cutty's Campground and other RV parks throughout the Midwest. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.Survivors include her children; Saundra Swan, Patricia Schaefer, Donald (Maureen) Swan, Kathryn (Karl) Anderson, James Swan, Annette (Jon) Wessman, Kenneth (Faye) Swan, 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Earl Swan, and 13 siblings.
