Dorothy M. Symmonds1926 - 2014Dorothy M. Symmonds, 87, of Kenosha, Wis., (formerly of Macon, Mo., and Paddock Lake, Wis.) passed away in her residence at the Canterbury Assisted Living Facility in Kenosha on Jan. 13, 2014.Mrs. Symmonds was born on Aug. 26, 1926, in Macon County, Mo., the daughter of Eli M. and Pearl Riley. She graduated from Atlanta High School (MO) in 1944. She married Laurence W. Symmonds on Feb. 9, 1947, in Macon. He preceded her in death in August, 2002. She was a member of Community Baptist Church of Silver Lake (until she retired south) and served with the Womens Guild, Sunday School, as a Deaconess and often in the church kitchen. She was known for her delicious cooking, sewing, crocheting and quilting. She was also known to gladly open her home to visiting missionaries and evangelists.Surviving are one son, Don (Marilyn) Symmonds, Cedarburg, Wis.; and one daughter, Lana (Ralph) Newton, of Kenosha; four grandchildren, Steve Symmonds, Mark Symmonds, Taylor Newton and Brinda Newton.She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother, Eugene Riley.A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, at the Canterbury Assisted Living Facility, 7924 36th Avenue, Kenosha. The family would like to give thanks to Hospice Alliance and special thanks to the Canterbury staff for their kindness, love, care and sincere gratitude to Darlene Halladay for her faithful visits.
